FAQs

Quality and Dependability on Every Custom Closet We Manufacture and Install

I am often asked these questions or very similar ones by my clients and prospective clients.

Most of my prospects find that I am easy to work with. They feel comfortable saying “Ken, we like you and your approach, we just have a couple of questions.”

Unfortunately, there are some people in my industry that will say just about anything to land a job, so the best defense is to ask plenty of questions and always get the answers in writing. We understand that it is pretty easy to come to the conclusion that all custom closets are pretty much the same.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Many buyers end up being disappointed with their custom closet especially if they got a “fantastic price”. It will be even worse if you don’t get the quality you expected because each time you use your closet you will be reminded of your decision.

I want you to be our next happy client. Manufacturing and installing custom closets is our primary business.

Whether you want to organize your: walk-in closet, reach-in closet, bedroom, pantry, office or garage storage it is my goal to bring ingenuity and quality to your project.

If you’re looking for an honest, reputable and stable company with a proven track record of quality work, reliable service and a stellar business reputation, call today for a quote on your closet or cabinetry project.

I welcome the opportunity to provide you with the ArtisanBilt Advantage. Please call me at (850) 226-2001 to set up an appointment.

We recommend that you use these questions and answers and also the questions on the How to Choose a Professional Custom Closet Company in the Florida Panhandle page to make sure you hire a true professional.

Reputation, Experience and Manufacturing Process
How much experience do you have?
  • We have successfully completed over 400 custom closet installations in the Florida panhandle and that is our primary business.
  • I have over 15 years of experience in cabinetry, furniture and construction including kitchens, baths and additions.
  • When you hire my company you can be assured that I will use all of my 15 years of experience to evaluate, measure and design your custom closet to meet your unique storage needs and preferences.
  • I am not forced to use cookie cutter or standard corporate or franchise designs.

Whether you want to organize your: walk-in closet, reach-in closet, bedroom, pantry, office or garage storage it is my goal to bring ingenuity and quality to your project.

Do you design and manufacture all of the custom closets you install?
  • Yes, we manufacture each custom closet at our 10,000 sq. ft. custom cabinet and woodworking facility to ensure quality, on time delivery and proper fit and finish.
  • This provides us with a significant advantage over our competitors that don’t have a dedicated facility and are subject to the whims and capabilities of manufacturers.
  • Closet measurements are a challenge. If the measurements are not perfect the manufactured materials won’t fit properly and the installer will be forced to “make it work” on the job. Because we manufacture your closet materials we understand how to measure and can provide a better fit and finish for your closet.

In the event that we need to change or adjust something, we can easily produce a new part, usually the same day. Our competitors will often have to wait weeks for replacement parts or the installer will be forced to “make it work” on the job.

Whether you want to organize your: walk-in closet, reach-in closet, bedroom, pantry, office or garage storage it is my goal to bring ingenuity and quality to your project.

How many references should I call?
  • Every custom closet company can come up with 3 good references.
  • We recommend that you ask for a minimum of 10 references.
  • Companies that install custom closets as their primary business complete 50 installations every year so asking for 10 references shouldn’t be a big deal.

You can use the information on our References page to know how to easily check the reputation and service record of any company you are seriously considering.

ArtisanBilt will provide you a list of at least 20 customer references that you can call to “check us out”.

How much is this going to cost?
I understand that everyone wants to know this and you will receive a guaranteed fixed price for your custom closet once I create your design using 3D- CAD software.I personally design each custom closet and we have successfully completed over 400 custom closet installations. When you hire my company you can be assured that I will use all of my 15 years of experience to evaluate, measure and design your custom closet to meet your unique storage needs and preferences. I am not forced to use cookie cutter or standard corporate designs.Your closet should make your life easier by helping you easily store and access all of your clothes and other household items for a lifetime.

Here is a quick overview of my process:

  1. Meet with you at your home or office to discuss your specific needs, desires, and budget.
  2. Take detailed measurements of the space(s) and make a rough sketch of the layout.
  3. Note all physical obstacles (light switches, receptacles, etc.) that will affect the layout.
  4. Discuss design ideas, show pictures of previous designs, and show samples of materials, colors, and accessories.
  5. Take all the information gathered from the initial meeting and work to fit as many of your needs and desires into the target space within the prescribed budget.
  6. The initial design and estimate will be presented to you along with my advice on certain design decisions.
  7. You will then have the opportunity to review these initial designs and make request for changes, additions, and deletions as desired. There is no limit to the amount of changes you can request…it’s only an initial design so any and all changes are acceptable.
  8. I will discuss the impact (positive or negative) of requested changes with you but ultimately you will make the final decision. I will only recommend accessories that fit your space and use preferences.
  9. Once a final design is produced and approved by you then an agreement will be provided for your approval.

At ArtisanBilt, we want you to be happy long after the last shelf is installed and to back that up we offer a lifetime warranty on workmanship.

I guess you could call me “old school” even though I am still pretty young.

Whether you want to organize your: walk-in closet, reach-in closet, bedroom, pantry, office or garage storage it is my goal to bring ingenuity and quality to your project.

Do you use subcontractors?
No. We only use employees. I want you to know that you will have a knowledgeable, well trained, quality installation crew that knows what they’re doing. All of our crew members are covered by our Workers Compensation insurance. We also train our crew members to act like guests in your home. We have a strict policy that prohibits the use of drugs or alcohol by our crew members and they are not allowed to smoke in your home or on your property.

  • Many companies use sub-contractors or even day laborers to make more money at the customer’s expense.
  • Using part-time employees, day laborers and/or subcontractors makes it almost impossible to maintain quality since these workers don’t get the continual training they need.
  • Custom closet companies that use these workers may be able to offer a lower price because they may not have to pay for benefits but the homeowner or business owner is the real loser because of the lower quality that is almost inevitable.

I sure wouldn’t want those folks in my house and I wouldn’t think you would either.

Who will be supervising my project?
  • I normally supervise each project. I have over 15 years of experience in cabinetry, furniture and construction including kitchens, baths and additions.
  • My goal on each project is to ensure that the installation is completed using our step-by-step process that has been developed and refined based on the 400 projects we have successfully completed.
  • Our process allows our clients to know specifically what we are doing and it also allows them to easily compare what we offer with our competitors.
  • Supervising each project allows me to continually train my employees. I never let them learn on their own. Manufacturing and installing custom closets is based on a set of skills that require constant learning about new materials, installation methods and safety processes.
Do you offer other remodeling services?

Florida law requires that every contractor be properly licensed in this state before contracting to build or remodel a home. However, ALL licensed contractors are regulated by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (“DBPR”), which can be contacted at: 1940 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-1027; telephone (850) 487-1395; website http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/.

Service Before, During and After the Project
Do you provide a fixed price guarantee or will I have to read a lot of fine print in your agreement?
  • This is the biggest area of customer complaints. Some closet companies will present totally unrealistic bids just to get the project.
  • Leaving out desired or needed accessories is just one of the ways these companies can present what looks like a “fantastic price.”

We don’t work that way. I will recommend and include all accessories that fit your space and use preferences.

We will prepare a fixed price proposal as soon as your design work is completed and approved by you. Each bid will provide a detailed breakdown of the materials to be used and a fixed price for the total project.

Do you offer a lifetime warranty?

Yes and I am confident that our manufacturing and installation process is worthy of a lifetime warranty.

Because we manufacture your closet materials we understand how to measure and can provide a better fit and finish for your closet.

We utilize a written step-by-step installation process to ensure a quality project and to eliminate inconsistencies.

We want our customers to know that their closet will still be looking good years after the last piece is in place.

Our warranty covers workmanship and excludes ordinary wear and tear.

Whether you want to organize your: walk-in closet, reach-in closet, bedroom, pantry, office or garage storage it is my goal to bring ingenuity and quality to your project.

How can I contact you during the day?
If you have ever called a company and had to wait days for a call back, I assure you that won’t happen.

  • My mobile phone is on 12 hours a day on regular business days.
  • I won’t always be able to pick up your call because I respect the client I am working for or meeting with. My personal goal is to return all morning calls by 1 PM and all afternoon calls by 6 PM.
  • I also will provide a project update every day on multi-day projects.
How can I find out if your insurance policy covers everyone working on my project?
This is a great question. Here are 2 questions I recommend you should ask before you hire a company to install your new closet or cabinetry:

  1. Will each crew member who will be working on my project be covered by your workers compensation insurance policy?
  2. If they answer no – Who will be liable if one of your workers is injured on my property?

Many companies in Florida advertise that they are “fully insured”. Unfortunately, this doesn’t really mean anything.

  • Worker’s compensation insurance does NOT COVER subcontractors or day laborers. This means that if a subcontractor or day laborer gets hurt on your property you can be held liable for their injuries.
  • Avoiding those companies is a smart move.

We only use employees on our projects and they are all covered by our workers compensation insurance. We also have $600,000 of liability insurance as an added protection for our clients.

Upon request we will provide you with the contact information for our insurance broker so you can verify our coverage.

Do you have employee conduct policies in place?
We train our crew members to act like guests in your home.We have a strict policy that prohibits the use of drugs or alcohol by our crew members and they are not allowed to smoke in your home or on your property.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept American Express, VISA and MasterCard for projects.
How can I be comfortable that you will leave my closet clean and ready to use?
We have a written clean-up checklist that is used on each project. This ensures that your home or office is ready for use at the beginning and end of each day. This is just part of a professional job performance.

At ArtisanBilt, we want you to be happy long after the last piece is installed and to back that up we offer a lifetime warranty on workmanship.
